The members of a conversation can see what’s in it, and each member sees what was posted while they were a member, except Bulletin posts and calendar events, which every current member sees. Follow-ups and your My Notes conversation are yours alone. Outside the conversation, the companies that run parts of Walkie process your content for Walkie, including Google Gemini, which indexes your content for search and Ask and translates it, and Anthropic, which writes summaries and Ask answers.

Here is who can see what:

  • Everyone in the conversation sees its messages, photos, videos, files, lists, notes, voice memos and map pins, and every call’s recording, transcript and summary. A call’s recording is there for the whole conversation, not only the people who were on the call.
  • Someone added later sees content from the time they joined, not before. Bulletin posts and calendar events follow whoever is in the conversation now, so a new member sees earlier ones too. The details part of a Bulletin post goes only to the people chosen for that post.
  • Someone who leaves or is removed sees nothing new and can’t join the conversation’s calls. They keep access to what was posted while they were a member.
  • Only you see your follow-ups and your My Notes conversation. No one else in Walkie sees the phone number, email or language on your profile, but when you call someone on a regular phone number, they see your mobile number as the caller ID, or your Walkie line if you have one.
  • Your photos keep the GPS location your camera saved in them, and everyone in the conversation can see it. Turn off location for your camera app if you don’t want that.
  • An office’s Slack gets only the messages a member who has connected it chooses to send there. Nothing crosses on its own. See Send to your office’s Slack.

The companies that process your content for Walkie, as the privacy policy lists them:

  • Supabase stores everything: the database, files and sign-in.
  • LiveKit carries live call audio and writes recordings. Twilio carries calls to and from regular phone numbers.
  • Deepgram turns audio into transcripts: call recordings, including voicemails, voice memos, walkthrough recordings, and the audio of videos where video transcription is on. For calls, it also gets the names of the conversation’s jobs, the street part of their addresses, and the names of the people on the call, to hear them right.
  • Anthropic reads full call transcripts to write call summaries, per-job summaries, Key points and other summaries. When you use Ask, it gets your question and the past content Ask found, and writes the answer.
  • Google Gemini turns the text of your content into search data as it’s saved, whether or not anyone uses Ask. That includes messages, notes, list items, file names, photo and video captions and descriptions, voice memo, walkthrough and call transcripts, summaries and Key points, follow-up notes and calendar events, with the job, conversation, person and date each belongs to. It also gets every question you ask in Ask, and anything you translate. Google Gemini may also be used to describe photos and to write some summaries.
  • Google Firebase delivers push notifications, and those carry the message text, sender name and conversation name. If you turn off Show message content on lock screen, Walkie replaces them with a plain alert. Incoming call alerts still show who’s calling.

If it didn’t work

  • Someone new says they can’t see earlier messages or calls. That’s how Walkie works today: they see what’s posted from when they joined. Forward or re-send what they need.
  • Someone sees a Bulletin post from before they joined. That’s expected. Bulletin posts and calendar events follow current membership.

What Walkie can’t do

  • There’s no admin, manager or company view. Nobody can see a conversation they aren’t a member of, including through a job it shares with another conversation.
  • Call audio is kept for three years and then deleted. Transcripts and summaries are kept like messages, indefinitely. Nobody — including us — can edit or delete a transcript or summary once it exists.
  • You can’t turn off call recording, and you can’t turn off search indexing. Content is sent to Google Gemini to be indexed as it’s saved, whether or not anyone uses Ask.
  • Walkie doesn’t read your messages or listen to your calls to moderate them. It acts on reports people send.
  • Walkie staff have restricted internal access, and Walkie doesn’t keep a full log of who at Walkie opened which record.
  • Walkie never uses your messages, calls, recordings, transcripts, summaries, photos, documents, lists or contacts for advertising.

Quick answers

Can people on the conversation who weren't on the call hear the recording?
Yes. Recordings, transcripts and summaries are available to every member of the conversation the call took place in, not only the people on the call.
Can someone I add later read our old messages?
Today, no. They see messages, calls, photos, files, lists and notes from the time they joined; Bulletin posts and calendar events are the exception.
Can my boss or company see conversations I'm not in?
No. Walkie has no admin or manager view for your company, so being on the same team or job doesn't let anyone into a conversation they aren't a member of.
Does Google get my messages?
Yes, as a service provider. Google Gemini turns the text of your content, including call transcripts, into search data so you can search and ask about it, and it also receives your Ask questions and anything you translate.
Does Anthropic get my calls?
Anthropic receives full call transcripts to write summaries, and your Ask question with the past content it finds, to write the answer.
Do these AI companies train on my content?
Walkie requires the providers that receive your content to keep it out of training their models. The privacy policy lists each provider's terms.
Are my follow-ups visible to the crew?
No. Follow-ups are private to the person who set them.
