Yes. Every Walkie call is recorded from the moment someone answers, then transcribed and summarized, and there’s no way to turn that off. The recording, transcript and summary go to everyone who was in the conversation when the call started, whether or not they picked up. Call audio is kept for three years and then deleted. Transcripts and summaries are kept like messages, indefinitely. Nobody — including us — can edit or delete a transcript or summary once it exists.
Steps
See who has a call’s record
- Open the conversation and tap the call in the feed, or tap the call log icon next to the orange call button at the top and pick the call.
- Tap Details.
- Look at People and Recording and access.
Read the notice people get
- During a call, tap the Recorded & transcribed pill at the top of the call screen.
- The Recording & privacy sheet opens with the full notice. Tap Got it to close it.
If it didn’t work
- The record says “No recording available for this call”. Nobody answered, so nothing was recorded. Unanswered calls have no recording, transcript or summary.
- The Transcript tab says “No recording was captured for this call, so there is nothing to transcribe.” The call connected but no audio was saved, so there’s no transcript or summary either.
- A call to a regular phone number has no recording. If their voicemail or an answering machine picked up, Walkie ends the call and records nothing.
- Someone new in the conversation can’t see an older call. That’s by design. People only see calls from while they were in the conversation.
What Walkie can’t do
- There is no setting to turn recording off, for one call or for your account.
- Call audio is kept for three years and then deleted. Transcripts and summaries are kept like messages, indefinitely. Nobody — including us — can edit or delete a transcript or summary once it exists. Deleting an account doesn’t remove them.
- Walkie can’t export or forward the recording or the full transcript. Only the summary can be shared.
- A person on a regular phone number can’t open the recording, transcript or summary.
- Walkie can’t hand a call to your phone’s own dialer. Tapping Call on someone who isn’t on Walkie places a recorded Walkie call to their number.

Quick answers
- Can I turn recording off for one call?
- No. Walkie has no unrecorded call. If you need a call that isn't recorded, dial from your phone's own dialer outside Walkie.
- Who gets the recording?
- Everyone who was in the conversation when the call started, including people who didn't pick up. Someone added to the conversation later doesn't get it.
- Can I delete a recording or transcript?
- No. Call audio is kept for three years and then deleted. Transcripts and summaries are kept like messages, indefinitely. Nobody — including us — can edit or delete a transcript or summary once it exists.
- What happens to my calls if I delete my account?
- The recordings, transcripts and summaries stay. They are also the record of everyone else on the call.
- Does the person on a regular phone number get the recording?
- No. On a call to someone who isn't on Walkie, they hear a short notice that the call is recorded and get nothing else, apart from a recap text if they agreed to texts.
- Is the ringing part recorded?
- No. Recording starts when the first person answers. A call nobody answers has no recording.
- How do people know they're being recorded?
- The call screen shows Recorded & transcribed, and the answering phone plays a spoken notice when the call connects: a longer one the first time that account answers a call, a short one after that. On Android the incoming call screen also says Recorded & transcribed before you answer; on iPhone it shows only the caller's name.
- Can I share the recording with someone outside Walkie?
- No. Share on a call record sends the summary only. The recording and the full transcript stay in Walkie.
