Let's set up your Walkie line. It only takes a minute.

Want one number your customers can call... that rings right in Walkie? That's your Walkie line.

On You, tap Calls... then Get a Walkie line. Pick a number, and claim it.

When someone calls it, they hear a short notice that the call is recorded. Then it rings in Walkie.

Answer, and talk. The call gets its summary and key points... and you pick the project, like any other call.

Your mobile stays yours. Your Walkie line is for work.

A Walkie line is a US phone number of your own, inside Walkie. When someone who isn’t on Walkie calls it, it rings in Walkie, and the call is recorded, transcribed and filed like any other Walkie call. You manage it in one place: You › Calls.

Steps

Get a Walkie line

  1. Open You › Calls.
  2. Under Your numbers, tap Your Walkie line. It says “A second number for work. Callbacks ring in Walkie.” and shows Get a Walkie line.
  3. Tap Get a Walkie line.
  4. In Choose your number, pick the one you want. Tap Change next to Area code to look in another area, or Show more for more choices.
  5. Tap Claim this number. You’re back in You › Calls, with your number under Your Walkie line.

See or copy your number

  1. Open You › Calls. Under Your numbers, Your Walkie line shows your number and Ready.
  2. Tap it. It opens up to show Copy number and “Callbacks to this number ring in Walkie.”
  3. Tap Copy number. It says Copied for a moment.

Choose which number people see

  1. Open You › Calls. Under Calling people not on Walkie, find Number they see.
  2. Pick Auto, Mobile or Walkie line. A sentence under it says what that means. This is your default for everyone who isn’t on Walkie.

Auto means your mobile first, then your Walkie line once they’ve called it or had a text from it. Mobile means they always see your mobile. Walkie line means they always see your Walkie line, and callbacks ring in Walkie. Without a live Walkie line there’s nothing to pick, and the card says they see your mobile.

Choose for one person

  1. Open your conversation with someone who isn’t on Walkie. The line under their name says which number they see, for example “Sees your Walkie line”.
  2. Tap that line. A sheet titled “Calling” and their name opens. You can also open it from Conversation settings, with Phone settings under Only you.
  3. The first card shows the number their phone will show, with the same choices. While they follow your default, the choice is marked “your default”, for example “Auto · your default”.
  4. Pick a different one to set it for just them. Pick the one marked “your default” to have them follow your default again. Tap Done to close the sheet.

While your default is Mobile or Walkie line, a person’s sheet offers only Mobile and Walkie line.

The first time you call someone new, Walkie asks which number to call from, with Auto, Your mobile and Walkie line. Tap Call without changing the pick and nothing is saved. To use the other number for just one call, touch and hold the call button at the top of the conversation and pick Call from your mobile or Call from Walkie line. That one call doesn’t change the person’s setting. Neither the first-call choice of number nor the one-call choice shows while your line is on hold.

When Walkie knows which number a person’s recap texts come from, their calling sheet says it under After each call: “It comes from your Walkie line.” or “It comes from Walkie’s number.” When a recap goes out from your line, the first one tells them it’s your Walkie work line and sends a contact card they can save.

If it didn’t work

  • The sheet says “Walkie lines aren’t available yet.” No line can be set up on your account right now. Nothing you do in the app changes that.
  • The number you picked was taken. Walkie gives you another number and says so.
  • The sheet says “Couldn’t load your Walkie line. Try again in a moment.” Wait a moment, then close the sheet and open it again.
  • People still see your mobile number. With Auto, they see your mobile until they’ve called your Walkie line or had a text from it. Pick Walkie line under Number they see, or in that person’s calling sheet, if you want them to see it now. If Walkie can’t use your line, it says why, for example “Your Walkie line is on hold, so Marco sees your mobile.”
  • Your Walkie line shows On hold, or callers hear “This number isn’t taking calls right now.” Your line is on hold because nothing covers it any more: your plan doesn’t include a Walkie line, and the cover that came with the line has ended. In You › Calls, a box says “Your Walkie line is on hold”. Tap See plans for the plans that keep it. Tap the line to see until when the number is held. Once your plan includes a line again, the line comes back.

What Walkie can’t do

  • Walkie lines are US numbers only.
  • An account can’t have more than one live Walkie line.
  • A held line is released 30 days after it went on hold if nothing covers it again. A released number is no longer yours, and Walkie can’t get it back for you.
  • A caller who isn’t answered may not be able to leave a voicemail on your Walkie line.
  • Callers to your Walkie line can’t skip the notice that the call is recorded.
  • Picking Walkie line means a new contact may not recognize the number, so they may not pick up.

Quick answers

What is a Walkie line?
A US phone number of your own, inside Walkie. When people who aren't on Walkie call it back, it rings in Walkie and the call is recorded, transcribed and filed like any other.
Will my calls come from my Walkie line straight away?
Not to someone new while your default is Auto. They see your mobile until they've called your Walkie line or had a text from it, then your Walkie line. To change that, pick Walkie line under Number they see in You › Calls, or in that one person's calling sheet.
Can I pick my number?
Yes. You choose from the numbers on offer, and you can change the area code to look for one nearby.
What does someone hear when they call my Walkie line?
A short message saying the call is recorded and transcribed by Walkie Pro, then it rings you in Walkie.
Where do I find my Walkie line?
Open You › Calls. It's under Your numbers, with its number. Tap it, then Copy number. If your account can get a line and has none, the row says Get a Walkie line. If there's no row at all, a line can't be set up for you right now.
Can I lose my Walkie line?
Yes. If your plan stops including a line after the cover that came with it ends, you should get a notification up to 7 days before, then the line goes on hold, and 30 days later the number is released.
Which plans include a Walkie line?
Open You › Calls. If your plan doesn't include one, the Your Walkie line row says which plans it comes with.
Can I have more than one Walkie line?
No. Each account has one live Walkie line.
