The call screen has four buttons along the bottom: Mute, Mark, Speaker and the red button that ends the call. Mark marks the moment so the summary pays attention to it, and Speaker only turns the loudspeaker on and off. If nobody answers, you can leave a voicemail of up to 60 seconds.

Steps

On the call

  1. Tap Mute to mute your microphone. It reads Muted until you tap it again.
  2. Tap Mark when something important is said. It reads Marked.
  3. Tap Speaker to put the call on the loudspeaker. Tap it again to go back to the earpiece or your headset.
  4. Tap the red button to end the call.

Decline with a text

  1. When a call comes in on Walkie’s incoming call screen, tap the message button between decline and answer.
  2. Pick one of the three messages: “Can’t talk right now. I’ll call you back.”, “Busy right now. Can you try again later?” or “Can’t talk right now. Please text me.” The call is declined and the message is sent in your conversation with the caller.

Leave a voicemail

  1. When the person you called doesn’t answer or declines, tap Leave a voicemail.
  2. Say your message. Recording stops by itself at 60 seconds.
  3. Tap Send voicemail, or Re-record to try again, or Discard to drop it.

If it didn’t work

  • You can’t hear the other person. Tap Speaker to try the loudspeaker. If there’s still nothing, see the article on calls with no audio.
  • Mute is greyed out and won’t respond. The recording notice is playing to someone on a regular phone number. Wait a few seconds.
  • A banner on the call screen says they can’t hear you, and “Your mic stopped sending”. Your microphone stopped working on its own; you didn’t mute it. Tap Turn mic on.
  • There’s no Leave a voicemail button. Voicemail is only offered to the caller, after no answer or a decline. It isn’t offered when the line was busy, when you called a regular phone number, or when their phone’s own voicemail picked up.

What Walkie can’t do

  • There’s no audio picker. Speaker is on or off, and your phone decides between earpiece and headset.
  • You can’t add someone to a call once it’s going.
  • There’s no hold and no call waiting. A second incoming call is turned away as busy.
  • There are no video calls.
  • In a browser, nothing rings while the Walkie tab is closed or the computer is asleep. Keep your phone for calls.
  • A voicemail never sends by itself. You have to tap Send voicemail.

Quick answers

What does Mark do?
It marks that moment of the call so the summary pays attention to what was said then. Use it when something important is agreed.
How do I switch to my Bluetooth headset?
Walkie has no audio picker. Turn Speaker off, and your phone uses the earpiece or a connected headset, whichever it picks.
Why is the Mute button greyed out?
On a call to a regular phone number, your mic is held for a few seconds while the other person hears the recording notice. Mute works again once it's done.
If I hang up on a group call, does it end for everyone?
No. You leave the call, and it carries on for the others. There's no button that ends a call for everyone.
Does a voicemail get a summary?
No. A voicemail is transcribed so it can be read, but it isn't summarized.
Can I take a second call while I'm on one?
No. Walkie handles one call at a time, and a second call that comes in is turned away as busy.
