A call didn’t ring, or there’s no audio
On Android a missed ring is usually a permission: turn on Ring on the lock screen in You, Calls. No audio is usually the mic or Speaker.

If a Walkie call didn’t ring on Android, Android is usually blocking it: tap the ring banner at the top of Walkie if one is showing, or turn on Ring on the lock screen and Calls in the background under You › Calls › This phone. If a call connects but nobody hears you, check the call’s Mute button first, then the microphone permission; to change where you hear the call, the only control is the Speaker toggle. If tapping Call does nothing, read the message Walkie shows at the bottom of the screen: it always says why.
Steps
Android, the phone didn’t ring
- If you see the banner Calls can’t ring on this phone or Calls may not ring on this phone, tap it and turn on what it asks for.
- Or open You, then Calls under Calls & notifications. This is the calls settings page in You, not the Calls tab in the bottom bar.
- Under This phone, if Ring on the lock screen says Off, tap it and allow it in the screen Android opens.
- If Calls in the background says Off, tap it and allow Walkie to run unrestricted.
- Make sure notifications are allowed for Walkie (the box at the top of the same sheet).
No audio during a call
- If the other person can’t hear you, look at Mute in the call. If it says Muted, tap it to unmute.
- If Mute is greyed out, you’re on a call to a regular phone number and the recording notice is still playing. Your mic comes back when it ends. If the call screen says the other person can’t hear you because “Your mic stopped sending”, tap Turn mic on.
- Still nothing? Check the microphone permission: You › Phone access › Microphone.
- If you can’t hear them, tap Speaker to switch the loudspeaker on. Tap it again to go back to the earpiece or a connected headset.
- If the sound is stuck in a headset or the truck’s Bluetooth, turn Bluetooth off on the phone. On iPhone you can also pick the output on the phone’s own call screen.
If it didn’t work
- “No connection — can’t start the call”. Calls need a signal. Walkie never holds a call to try later.
- “You’re already on a call”. Hang up the other call first.
- “Still syncing this conversation — try again in a moment”. Walkie is repairing its list of who is in the conversation. Wait a moment and tap Call again.
- “Your plan covers calls with one other person.” The call would have more people than the caller’s plan allows. Tap See plans to compare plans, or call fewer people.
- “Couldn’t start the call — please try again”. Try once more. If it keeps happening, contact us.
- A sheet titled Use your microphone. Tap Continue and allow the microphone. Walkie won’t place the call without it.
- “Microphone is off for Walkie. Turn it on in Settings to make calls.” Tap Allow in that message, or Settings if the phone won’t ask again, and turn the microphone on for Walkie Pro.
- “Audio is still closing. Try again.” The last call’s audio hasn’t finished shutting down. Wait a second and call again.
- iPhone: calls ring on the phone’s own call screen. If a Focus or the Ring/Silent switch is on, the phone can stay silent. Turn the Focus off or flip the switch to test.
- Android: calls don’t use your headset or truck audio. Walkie asks for Bluetooth right after the microphone, the first time you place a call. If you said no, tap the Calls may not ring on this phone banner if it’s showing and allow Bluetooth headsets in the Make sure calls ring checklist, or allow Nearby devices (on some phones called Bluetooth) for Walkie Pro in the phone’s app permissions. A new Bluetooth grant works after you close and reopen Walkie.
- The phone kept ringing after the caller hung up. It stops by itself within 40 seconds. Tapping decline on a call that already ended doesn’t call anyone back.
What Walkie can’t do
- There’s no in-call picker for Bluetooth, earpiece or “Phone”. The only audio-output control is Speaker, on or off.
- Walkie can’t queue a call to place later. Without a connection the call doesn’t start.
- A web browser tab can’t ring for a Walkie call.
- Walkie can’t turn on Android’s full-screen call permission for you. Android only lets you turn it on in its own settings screen, which Walkie opens for you.
- Muting notifications doesn’t silence calls, and there’s no setting that does.
