Working offline
Walkie keeps working without signal: read what's on your phone, send messages, photos, lists and notes, and they go out when you're back online.
- iPhone · Android · Web
- Free · Crew · Plus · Elite
Walkie keeps working with no signal: everything already on your phone stays readable, and new messages, photos, files, lists, notes and voice memos are saved on the phone and sent in order when you’re back online with Walkie open. Calls and Ask need a connection, and so does anything that was never downloaded to the phone. Don’t sign out or reinstall while anything is waiting, because that erases work that hasn’t sent.
Steps
- Keep working. New messages show Queued until they go out.
- When you’re back on signal, open Walkie and leave it open for a moment. It starts sending on its own.
- If the You tab has a dot, open You and tap Sending problems at the top. The sheet has two parts:
- Waiting to send: in line, nothing to do. Each shows how long it’s been waiting.
- Needs review: Walkie stopped and needs you to choose. Tap the item.
- If the item says “New messages · Review before sending”, other people posted while yours was waiting. The sheet New messages received shows what came in. Choose Send anyway, Edit message, or Delete draft.
- If the item says “Not sent · Review problem”, tap Try again, or Discard this change if you don’t need it.
If it didn’t work
- Items stay under Waiting to send. The phone has no working connection. Wi-Fi that needs a sign-in page counts as no connection until you open a web page and sign in.
- On iPhone, sending stopped when you put the phone away. iPhone only lets Walkie send for a short time after you leave it. Open Walkie again and keep it open until Sending problems is gone from the You tab.
- A list or note you changed offline says “Conflicting changes · Review”. Someone else changed it too. For a list, choose Review changes or Discard my changes. For a note, choose Review & merge or Discard my changes. For a single item, choose Adopt server version or Keep my changes.
- A document won’t open offline. Only files already downloaded to the phone open offline. Walkie says “You’re offline. This file will open when you’re back online.”
- Older messages won’t load. Messages that never reached this phone need a connection to load.
- Ask says “Ask needs a connection. You can still look things up offline.” Ask works again once you’re online.
What Walkie can’t do
- Walkie can’t place or receive calls without a connection, and it never holds a call to place later.
- Ask can’t answer offline.
- Walkie can’t send a held message by itself. A message that waited 5 minutes or more while someone else posted only goes out when you tap Send anyway.
- Delete draft and Discard this change can’t be undone.
- Signing out or reinstalling can’t save work that hasn’t sent. Both erase it from the phone. If anything is waiting, sign-out warns you first; uninstalling doesn’t warn you.

Quick answers
- Can I make a Walkie call with no signal?
- No. Calls need a connection, and Walkie never holds a call to place later.
- Will my message send by itself when I get signal back?
- Yes, in the order you wrote it. If it waited 5 minutes or more and someone else posted in that conversation, Walkie holds it until you tap Send anyway.
- Should I sign out or reinstall to get things syncing?
- No. Signing out or reinstalling erases everything on this phone that hasn't sent yet.
- Do I need to keep Walkie open for photos to upload?
- On iPhone, yes: sending stops shortly after you leave the app and picks up when you open it again. Android can keep sending in the background.
- Can I use Ask offline?
- No. Ask needs a connection. Everything already on your phone is still there to read.
- Where do I see what hasn't sent?
- A dot on the You tab means something is waiting. Open You and tap Sending problems at the top.
