A call summary never appeared

Calls nobody answered have no recording, so no summary. If writing up an answered call failed, tap Retry on the call. Voicemails get a transcript only.

A call only gets a summary if someone answered it: missed, declined and canceled calls aren’t recorded, so there’s nothing to write up. For an answered call, the call shows Writing up the call… while Walkie works; if it failed, it shows Summary unavailable with a Retry button. The minutes limit is on. A call gets its transcript and summary if anyone on it has minutes left when it ends, even if the call runs past their balance. If nobody does, the call stays a recording, and new calls are written up again when minutes reset. Translating a voice memo or writing up a walkthrough needs enough minutes left to cover it, and a video transcript needs someone on Plus or Elite with enough minutes left to cover the video.

Steps

  1. Open the conversation the call was in and find the call.
  2. Read what the call says:
    • Writing up the call…: Walkie is still working on it. Check back in a few minutes.
    • Summary unavailable with Retry: tap Retry. It changes to Retrying… while Walkie tries again.
    • No speech recorded: the recording had no speech in it, so there’s nothing to summarize.
    • A one-line summary such as “Audio test call”: Walkie found no work talk in the call, so there are usually no key points.
  3. Tap the call to open its record. Summary and Transcript are there.
  4. If the call was about a job, look in that job’s tab too. Walkie posts the summary there.

If it didn’t work

  • No Retry button. Retry only appears when the call has a transcript to work from. If the transcript itself failed, the record says “Transcript couldn’t be generated”. Walkie tries up to three times on its own; after that, contact us.
  • It says Already redone. A call gets one redo, and this one is used.
  • It was a voicemail. Voicemails get a transcript, not a summary.
  • It says “No recap — out of minutes”. Nobody on the call had minutes left when it ended. The call stays a recording, and Retry can’t bring it back.
  • You left the call screen and can’t find it. After you hang up, Walkie may show “Call saved. The summary will show up in” followed by the conversation name. Tap View to go there.
  • You got a “Walkie Summary” alert saying the summary couldn’t be generated. Open the conversation and follow the steps above.

What Walkie can’t do

  • Walkie can’t summarize a call nobody answered. Nothing is recorded until someone picks up.
  • Walkie can’t redo a summary more than once per call.
  • Walkie can’t write a summary for a voicemail, only a transcript.
  • There’s no setting to turn summaries off for your calls.

Quick answers

Why is there no summary for a missed call?
Walkie only records once someone answers. A call nobody picked up, or one that was declined or canceled, has nothing to summarize.
Can I retry a summary that failed?
Yes, when the call has a transcript. Tap Retry on the call where it says Summary unavailable.
Can I get a summary redone?
Once per call. Open the call and tap Redo summary, and the new summary replaces the old one.
Do voicemails get a summary?
No. A voicemail gets a transcript, not a summary.
Did I run out of minutes?
The minutes limit is on. A call gets its transcript and summary if anyone on it has minutes left when it ends, even if the call runs past their balance. If nobody does, the call stays a recording, and new calls are written up again when minutes reset. Translating a voice memo or writing up a walkthrough needs enough minutes left to cover it, and a video transcript needs someone on Plus or Elite with enough minutes left to cover the video. Check your minutes in You › Plan & usage.
Where does the summary show up?
On the call in the conversation, and also in the tab of each job the call was about.
