When you reach a monthly allowance, calls still connect and still record and messages keep working, but Ask stops answering at your plan’s questions until your reset date, usually the start of the calendar month (UTC). The minutes limit is on. A call gets its transcript and summary if anyone on it has minutes left when it ends, even if the call runs past their balance. If nobody does, the call stays a recording, and new calls are written up again when minutes reset. Translating a voice memo or writing up a walkthrough needs enough minutes left to cover it, and a video transcript needs someone on Plus or Elite with enough minutes left to cover the video.
Steps
To see where you are this month:
- Tap You.
- Under Plan, tap Plan & usage.
- The top card shows the minutes of calls transcribed this month. Under Ask Walkie you’ll see your questions used and the date they reset.
What uses minutes:
- Calls: every current member of the conversation is charged the call’s minutes, from when it starts ringing to hang-up, including people who didn’t pick up.
- Voice memos: only translating one uses minutes. Its transcript and summary don’t.
- Videos: a video’s transcript uses minutes from each member of the conversation who can cover its full length. A video gets a transcript only when someone in the conversation on Plus or Elite can cover it.
- Ask uses questions, never minutes.
If it didn’t work
- “You’ve used this month’s … questions. Resets …” (with your plan’s number and a date). Ask is paused until that date. Search in the same field still works and never uses a question.
- Plan & usage says “Ask Walkie is paused until” a date. Same thing: wait for that date.
- When your minutes are gone, Plan & usage reads “Transcripts and summaries are paused until” a date, “Calls still connect.” A new call still gets its transcript and summary if anyone else on it has minutes left after hang-up. If nobody does, it stays a recording.
- A video has no transcript. Nobody in the conversation on Plus or Elite could cover its length.
- You need more this month. Paid plans are sold to customers in the United States. You upgrade in Plan & usage, and pay on Stripe's checkout page in your browser.
What Walkie can’t do
- Walkie can’t turn a call made without minutes into a transcript or summary later.
- You can’t buy extra minutes or questions for the current month, and unused ones don’t carry over. The one way to add minutes is Extra minutes earned through Invite & earn; they last until your next monthly reset.
- Walkie can’t transcribe a video when nobody in the conversation on Plus or Elite can cover it.
- Search covers only what’s on this device, back as far as your plan’s history reaches.
- Switching from one paid plan to another takes effect at the end of the billing period, not right away. Moving up from Free starts once you’ve paid.

Quick answers
- Do calls stop recording when my minutes run out?
- No. Calls always connect and always record. Only the transcript and summary are skipped, and only when nobody on the call has minutes left.
- Is the minutes limit switched on today?
- The minutes limit is on.
- Is the Ask questions limit switched on today?
- Ask stops answering for the month when you reach your plan's questions. Your questions come back on the reset date shown in Plan & usage.
- When do minutes and questions reset?
- Usually at the start of the calendar month (UTC). In a new account's first month the date can differ, so go by the reset date in Plan & usage.
- Will a call made without minutes get a summary later?
- No. A call that was refused a transcript because nobody on it had minutes left stays a recording, and never gets a transcript or summary afterwards.
- Does a long call get cut off when minutes run out?
- No. Calls are never cut off, and minutes are checked after hang-up: if anyone on the call has minutes left then, the whole call gets its transcript and summary, even past their balance.
