Connect a job to a conversation
Open the conversation and tap Add to a project at the end of the tab row. Pick a job you're on, or tap Create job and enter its address.
- iPhone · Android · Web
- Free · Crew · Plus · Elite
Open the conversation and tap Add to a project, the last tab in the row of tabs at the top. Pick a job you’re already on, or tap Create job and enter the job’s address. The job gets its own tab in that conversation, and everyone in the conversation becomes a member of the job.
Steps
- On Projects, open the conversation. On a phone, tapping it first opens a short sheet; tap Activity or a job there to go into the conversation.
- Tap Add to a project at the end of the tab row. If you don’t see it, tap the Jobs button at the left of the row, then Connect another job.
- To use a job you’re already on, type in the Search jobs box, tick one or more jobs, and tap Connect job. With more than one ticked, the button reads “Connect 2 jobs”, and so on.
- To make a new job, tap Create job instead. The New job sheet opens.
- In Address or place, type the address and pick it from the suggestions. The address names the job. Afterwards, the job’s owner and managers can rename it or change its address: open the job’s page, tap Project settings, then Name or Address. Everyone else sees “Only the owner or a manager can change this.”
- Tap Create job.
- You land on the job’s new tab and see “Connected to” and the job’s name. Everyone in the conversation sees a line saying you connected or created it.
If you aren’t on any jobs yet, step 2 opens New job straight away.
Other ways in: the chip in the message bar reads Add to a project while a conversation has no jobs; an empty conversation shows an Add to a project button; and on Projects you can press and hold a conversation and tap Add to a project (on a computer, right-click it).
If it didn’t work
- “Ask a conversation admin for job permission to add jobs.” Someone restricted your access in this conversation. Ask someone with Full access there to open People, tap your name, and turn on Create and link jobs.
- There’s no Add to a project tab and no Connect another job row. You’re in an office conversation, an archived conversation, or a message request you haven’t accepted yet. Jobs can’t be connected there.
- A warning says someone is “already on a job here”. A job at that address already exists. Tap Connect in the warning to use it instead of making a second one.
- “This job is already in this conversation”. It’s already one of this conversation’s tabs. Close the sheet and tap its tab.
- “No address match”. Walkie couldn’t find that address. You can still create the job with the name you typed, but it won’t be checked for duplicates by location. Check the spelling first; the owner or a manager can fix the name afterwards.
- The job you want isn’t in the search results. You can connect a job you’re on, or one that someone in this conversation is on. A job you archived everywhere doesn’t show here; restore it from You › Archive first.
What Walkie can’t do
- A job can’t be deleted or disconnected from a conversation. Archiving it hides it for you only.
- Nobody but the job’s owner and its managers can change its name or its address.
- Connecting a job doesn’t share any other conversation’s messages. People only see what’s posted in conversations they’re in.
- A job can’t be connected to an office conversation from the tab row.
- There’s no description or notes field on a job. The address is the only thing you enter.

Quick answers
- Where is the button to add a job?
- Open the conversation and tap Add to a project, the last tab in the row of tabs at the top. You can also tap the Jobs button at the left of that row and pick Connect another job.
- Does connecting a job add everyone in the conversation to it?
- Yes, everyone in the conversation, and anyone who joins it later, becomes a member of the job and can connect it to their own conversations. They still only see what's posted in conversations they're in.
- Can I rename a job after I create it?
- The address you enter names the job, and the job's owner and managers can change the name or the address later from Project settings. Everyone else sees "Only the owner or a manager can change this."
- Can I disconnect a job from a conversation?
- No. You can archive the job in that conversation, which hides it for you only.
- Why does it say to ask a conversation admin for job permission?
- Someone in the conversation restricted your access and didn't turn on Create and link jobs. Ask someone with full access in that conversation to turn it on.
