Edit, remove, forward or share a message

Press and hold a message to see what you can do with it; on a computer, right-click it. You can edit your own text message for 2 minutes and remove your own message for 3 minutes, and nobody can change or remove someone else’s message. Send or share lets you forward a message to another conversation or send it outside Walkie.

Steps

Edit a message you sent

1. Press and hold your text message.
2. Tap Edit. The row shows how many edits and how much time you have left.
3. The message bar shows “Editing message”. Change the text and send.

Remove a message you sent

1. Press and hold your message.
2. Tap Remove. The row counts down the time left.
3. Tap Remove to confirm. Everyone sees “This message was removed.” in its place.

Copy the text

1. Press and hold the message.
2. Tap the preview of the message at the top of the menu. You’ll see “Message copied to clipboard”.

On a computer you can also select the text and copy it.

Forward it or send it outside Walkie

1. Press and hold the message.
2. Tap Send or share.
3. Pick one:
   • Forward sends it to another Walkie conversation. It stays in Walkie.
   • Share outside Walkie hands it to your phone’s share sheet, for a text, an email or another app. It leaves Walkie.
   • Send to office posts it to your office’s Slack, if your office is connected. The row may show your office’s name.
   • Copy summary copies a call’s summary, and Copy transcript copies what was said in a voice memo or voicemail.

The same menu also has Reply, React, Follow up, Tag, Schedule and Add to list. On a computer’s right-click menu, Schedule reads Add to schedule. You can also swipe a message right to reply, or left to set a follow-up.

If it didn’t work

• There’s no Edit row. It isn’t your message, it isn’t a text message, the 2 minutes are up, or 3 newer messages have arrived below it.
• The Edit row says “Edit limit reached (3 of 3)”. You’ve used all 3 edits. Send a new message with the correction.
• There’s no Remove row. It isn’t your message, the 3 minutes are up, or it’s a kind that can never be removed: a call, a Bulletin post, or a shared list or note.
• There’s no Forward row. Voice memos, calls, call recap texts, Bulletin posts, calendar events and list nudges can’t be forwarded. A list you own is shared with Share as reference instead.
• There’s no Send to office row. Your office isn’t connected, or that kind of message can’t go to Slack, such as a voice memo, a call or a calendar event.
• Nothing happens when you tap the preview. Only text messages copy that way. Tapping a photo, file or voice memo preview opens it instead.

What Walkie can’t do

• A message can’t be removed after 3 minutes, and nobody can remove someone else’s message.
• Removing a message doesn’t hide that something was removed, and it can’t take back what people already read.
• Photos, videos, files and voice memos can’t be edited, only removed within the 3 minutes.
• Calls can’t be removed from a conversation.
• There’s no translate button on messages.
