People in a conversation
In a group, tap its name, then People to add, restrict or remove someone. Only whoever added a person, or whoever started the group, can remove them.

People are managed per conversation, from the conversation’s name at the top, then People. In a group, anyone with full access can add people, but only the person who added someone, or whoever started the group, can remove them. A one-to-one conversation is always just the two of you: nobody can be added, removed or leave.
Steps
Add someone to a group
- Open the group (tap it on Projects) and tap its name at the top. Conversation settings opens.
- Tap People.
- Tap Add member and pick the person.
- If they aren’t on Walkie yet, picking them opens a text invite on your phone instead of adding them. Add them once they’ve joined.
To bring a third person into a one-to-one, open Conversation settings and tap Start a group with (it shows the other person’s first name). That starts a new group; the one-to-one stays as it is.
Restrict or remove someone
- In Conversation settings, tap People, then tap the person.
- To restrict them, choose Restricted and confirm. Then switch on what they may still do: Create and link jobs or Add people.
- To remove them, tap Remove member, then Remove. Only the person who added them, or whoever started the conversation, can do this. They lose access to the conversation. Their messages and history stay.
Leave a group
- In Conversation settings, tap Leave conversation.
- Confirm with Leave conversation. You stop receiving messages, and rejoining won’t restore what you missed.
Rename a group
- In Conversation settings, tap Name and type the new name. Only people with Full access can rename a group. Everyone in the conversation sees the change.
If it didn’t work
- There’s no Remove member row. You didn’t add that person and didn’t start the conversation. The screen says “Only the person who added them, or whoever started this conversation, can remove someone.” Ask one of them.
- “This person started the conversation and can’t be removed.” Nobody can remove or restrict the person who started a conversation. They can leave on their own.
- “Only conversation administrators can modify team roles and member access.” Someone restricted you. Ask someone with Full access in that conversation.
- There’s no Add member button. You’re restricted and don’t have Add people switched on, or it’s a one-to-one, or it’s an office conversation, whose people are managed in the office settings.
- You can’t add another person. A conversation holds up to 25 people at a time.
- There’s no Leave conversation row. It’s a one-to-one or My Notes. Archive a one-to-one instead.
- There’s no People or Name row. It’s a one-to-one. Those rows are for groups only.
- Tapping Name does nothing. You’re restricted in this group. Only people with Full access can rename it; ask one of them.
What Walkie can’t do
- Nobody can be removed from a one-to-one, and a one-to-one can’t be left.
- Removing someone doesn’t delete their messages or take back what they already saw.
- Adding someone doesn’t show them anything sent before they joined, and re-adding someone doesn’t fill the gap while they were out.
- You can’t block someone who’s already in a conversation with you. Blocking is offered on a message request, with Report and block. You can unblock people in You › Account & privacy › Blocked accounts.
- A restricted person can’t change anyone’s access. Only people with Full access can restrict or unrestrict someone.

Quick answers
- Who can remove someone from a group?
- Only the person who added them, or whoever started the conversation. Everyone else can't, even with full access.
- Can I leave a one-to-one conversation?
- No, a one-to-one can't be left and nobody can be removed from it. You can archive it, which hides it for you only.
- How many people can be in a conversation?
- Up to 25 people at a time.
- Does someone I add see the old messages?
- No. They see messages sent from when they joined, not the history before it.
- What's the difference between Full access and Restricted?
- Everyone starts with full access, which covers jobs, people and conversation settings. A restricted person can still read and send, and can only connect jobs or add people if you switch that on.
- If I remove someone, do their old messages disappear?
- No, their messages and the history stay. They just stop seeing anything sent after they were removed.
- If I leave a group and get added back, do I see what I missed?
- No. Messages sent while you were out stay hidden from you, even after you're added back.
