Job names, duplicates and merging

A job is named by its address, and its owner or a manager can rename it. If you end up with two jobs for one site, Walkie support can merge them for you.

A job’s name comes from the address you pick when you create it. The job’s owner and managers can change the name or the address later; everyone else sees “Only the owner or a manager can change this.” When you start a job at an address that already has one, Walkie warns you and offers to connect the existing job instead. If two jobs for the same site slip through, only Walkie support can merge them.

Steps

Rename a job or change its address

  1. Open the job’s page and tap Project settings.
  2. Tap Name to change what the job is called, or Address to change where it is.
  3. Type the new name or address and tap Save. It shows everywhere the job appears, and each conversation the job is in gets a quiet note about the change.

Avoid a duplicate when you create a job

  1. In New job, type the address in Address or place and pick it from the suggestions.
  2. Check what it will show as. The sheet shows the short name and the full name before you create it.
  3. If a warning says someone is “already on a job here”, tap Connect in the warning to use that job.
  4. Otherwise, tap Create job.

Get two jobs merged

  1. Email support@walkiepro.com with both jobs’ names or addresses, which one to keep, and the name of a conversation each one is in.
  2. Walkie support merges them. After that, there’s one job, and it keeps its tab in every conversation either job was in.

If it didn’t work

  • “No address match” and the address you typed. Walkie couldn’t find it. You can still create the job with that name, but it won’t be checked for duplicates by location. Check the spelling first; the owner or a manager can fix the name afterwards.
  • “This job is already in this conversation”. The job is already one of this conversation’s tabs. Use that tab.
  • The warning names someone you don’t know. They’re on a job at that address in another conversation. Connecting it doesn’t show you their messages, and doesn’t show them yours.
  • “Ask a conversation admin for job permission to add jobs.” You’re restricted in this conversation. Ask someone with Full access there to switch on Create and link jobs for you.
  • You already made a job with a typo. If you’re the owner or a manager, fix it in Project settings. Otherwise ask one of them, or create the correct job and connect it, then archive the wrong one or ask support to merge the two.

What Walkie can’t do

  • Nobody but the job’s owner and its managers can change its name or its address.
  • A job can’t be deleted or disconnected from a conversation. Archive hides it for you only.
  • There’s no merge button in the app. Merging is done by Walkie support only, and a merge can’t be undone.
  • The duplicate warning is advice, not a block. If you tap Create job anyway, you get a second job.

Quick answers

Can I rename a job?
The job's owner and managers can. Open the job's page, tap Project settings, then Name or Address. Everyone else sees "Only the owner or a manager can change this."
I made a typo in a job's address. What do I do?
If you're the owner or a manager, open the job's page, tap Project settings, then Address, and fix it. Otherwise ask one of them, or create a new job with the right address and email Walkie support to merge the two.
Can I merge two jobs myself?
No. Only Walkie support can merge jobs, because a merge changes the job in every conversation it's in and can't be undone.
Can I delete a job?
No. You can archive it, which hides it for you only.
What does "already on a job here" mean?
A job at that address already exists, and you or people you work with are on it. Tap Connect in the warning to use that job instead of making a second one.
