Why you don’t add people to a job
People join conversations, not jobs. Everyone in a conversation becomes a member of its jobs, and leaving every conversation on a job takes the job off their list.

In Walkie you never add a person to a job. You put people in a conversation, and everyone in that conversation, now and later, becomes a member of the jobs connected to it. So cutting someone off means removing them from the job’s conversations, not touching the job: leaving or being removed from every conversation on a job takes the job off their list.
How it works
- The conversation decides who sees what. Messages, photos, files, lists and notes on a job’s tab are seen only by the people in that conversation.
- The job is shared by name. If the same job is connected to your conversation with the framer and your conversation with the owner, each conversation keeps its own messages for it. The framer never sees the owner’s conversation, and the other way round.
- Being a job member is light. A member can see the job’s name and address and connect it to their own conversations. When someone starts a new job at the same address, Walkie can tell them who’s already on it, such as “Dave is already on a job here”. Connecting a job warns you: “Everyone in this conversation will also be able to add this job to their own conversations.”
- To bring someone in: start or open a conversation with them from Projects (tap + for New conversation), then Add to a project.
- Or start from the job. On a job’s page, tap Project settings, then Add someone: it picks one of the job’s conversations and adds them there. The conversation’s own rule still decides whether you may add people to it.
- Calls follow the conversation too. A call is filed under the jobs it was about, from the jobs connected to the conversation it happened in.
If it didn’t work
- You archived the job and the other person can still see it. Archiving only hides things for you. They keep the tab, its history and anything new posted there.
- You want someone out of a group. In the group, tap its name at the top, then People, tap the person, and tap Remove member. Only the person who added them, or whoever started the conversation, can do this. Their messages and history stay, and they stop seeing anything new.
- You want someone out of a one-to-one. That isn’t possible. Archive the conversation to hide it for yourself; they can still write in it, and a new message brings it back.
- You want to bring a third person into a one-to-one. You can’t add to a one-to-one. In Conversation settings, tap Start a group with (the row shows the other person’s first name) to start a new group; the one-to-one stays as it is.
- Someone you removed still has the job in their list. They’re in another conversation the job is connected to. The job leaves their list once they’re out of every one of them.
What Walkie can’t do
- There’s no way to put a person on a job or take them off it directly. People are added to and removed from conversations only, and Add someone on the job’s page does it through one of the job’s conversations.
- Leaving or being removed from one of a job’s conversations doesn’t take the job off someone’s list while they’re still in another of them.
- A job can’t be disconnected from a conversation, and archiving doesn’t remove anyone’s access.
- Removing someone doesn’t take back what they already saw. Their view of the conversation stops at the moment they were removed.

Quick answers
- How do I give someone access to a job?
- Put them in a conversation and connect the job to it. Everyone in that conversation becomes a member of the job. On the job's page, Project settings has Add someone, which picks one of the job's conversations and adds them there.
- How do I take someone off a job?
- There's no row on the job itself. Remove them from the job's conversations, which you can do in a group you started or added them to. Leaving or being removed from every conversation on a job takes the job off their list.
- Does archiving the job cut someone off?
- No, archiving hides the job for you only. The other person keeps the tab and everything new posted to it.
- Can I remove someone from a one-to-one conversation?
- No, nobody can be removed from a one-to-one. You can archive it, which hides it for you only.
- If my sub and my client are both on the same job, can they see each other's messages?
- No, each conversation keeps its own messages, photos and files, even for the same job. They see only conversations they're in.
- What can a job member see without being in my conversation?
- The job's name and address, and they can connect the job to their own conversations. They can't see your conversation's messages, photos or files.
