How big a file can I send, and how do I save one to my phone?
Photos and videos up to 250 MB, files up to 50 MB, and a 3-minute limit on videos. Share hands a file to your phone's share sheet.
- iPhone · Android · Web
- Free · Crew · Plus · Elite
- Files
Photos and videos can be up to 250 MB each, documents such as PDFs and drawings up to 50 MB, and a video you record or pick in Walkie has a 3-minute limit. To keep a copy on your phone or send it outside Walkie, open the document and tap Share, or on a photo tap More and Share or save to phone, then choose where it goes in your phone’s share sheet.
Steps
Save or share a document
- Open the Files tab, pick the conversation or job, and switch to Files.
- Tap the document. It opens full screen.
- Tap Share.
- In your phone’s share sheet, pick where it goes, such as Save to Files on an iPhone, or another app. Details on the same screen shows the file’s details.
If Walkie can’t show that file type, the screen shows a card instead: use Open in another app or Share or save to phone.
Save or share a photo or video
- Tap the photo or video to open it full screen.
- Tap More, then Share or save to phone.
- Choose where it goes in your phone’s share sheet.
Send it to another conversation
Press and hold the message it’s in, tap Send or share, and pick where it goes. For a photo or text, Share outside Walkie in the same list opens your phone’s share sheet. A document message doesn’t have that row, so open the document and use Share.
The file sheet
Some files open a sheet instead, for example from search, or a file in a conversation that Walkie can’t show yet. There, Save or share opens your phone’s share sheet, Info shows its details, and See chat jumps to the message it was sent in.
If it didn’t work
These are the messages you might see, and what they mean:
- “This video is 4:12. Videos can be up to 3 minutes.” (with that video’s length) The video is too long to add. When you pick several at once, the message counts the videos that are too long instead. Trim it on your phone first, then pick it again.
- “… is over 50 MB and wasn’t added.” (or “… files are over 50 MB and weren’t added.”) A file you picked with Files is bigger than 50 MB. Send a smaller copy, or split it up.
- “This attachment is too large to send. Photos and videos can be up to 250 MB, files up to 50 MB.” It shows under Sending problems on the You tab. For a video, Retry there should try shrinking it to fit; otherwise send a smaller one.
- “Videos can only be sent from the Walkie app on your phone.” You’re in a browser. Send the video from your phone. A video file under 50 MB may still go through Computer files as a file.
- “This photo is still syncing. Try again in a moment.” You tried to pin or unpin a photo on the Files tab before it finished uploading. Wait, then try again.
- Camera or Photos is off for Walkie. Walkie says which one. Turn it on for Walkie in your phone’s Settings.
What Walkie can’t do
- Walkie can’t raise the size limits for your account or plan. They’re the same for everyone.
- Walkie doesn’t cut a long video down for you. Trim it on your phone first.
- In a browser, Walkie can’t send a video as a video, and your photo library may not show. Use Computer files for photos and files.
- Walkie doesn’t save photos to your phone by itself. Use Share or Share or save to phone.

Quick answers
- What's the biggest file I can send?
- Photos and videos can be up to 250 MB, and documents like PDFs up to 50 MB. The limits are the same on every plan.
- How long can a video be?
- There's a 3-minute limit when you record it in Walkie or pick it from your photos. Walkie tells you the video's length when it's too long.
- How do I save a PDF to my phone?
- Open it from the Files tab and tap Share, then choose where to save it in your phone's share sheet.
- Does a photo I share outside Walkie keep its location?
- A photo sent as a photo has its location and camera details removed before it uploads, so copies of it don't carry them. A picture sent through Files may go as a file, just as it is, and still carry them.
- Can I send a video from a browser?
- Not as a video: in a browser Walkie says videos can only be sent from the phone app. Photos and files work, and a video file under 50 MB may still go through Computer files as a file.
